A Day in Aberdeen: Exploring Heritage, Culture, and Relaxation

Morning Inspiration at Trinity Church of Aberdeen

Our day in Aberdeen began on a spiritually uplifting note with a visit to Trinity Church of Aberdeen. We had the privilege of hearing David Gibson preach. David, a client of The FOCUS Group, delivered a heartfelt sermon that resonated deeply with us. It was particularly special for Brad to experience this moment, as The FOCUS Group has been instrumental in raising funds for the church’s ongoing construction. Touring the site, seeing the tangible impact of the fundraising efforts, and imagining the future gatherings that will take place there was a truly rewarding experience.

Afternoon Leisure and Exploration

After the morning service and tour, we returned to our lovely townhouse to rest and recharge. The tranquility of the house provided a perfect respite before heading out for our afternoon adventures.

Brad, Wendy, and Dakota decided to visit the Aberdeen Maritime Museum. This museum, with its fascinating exhibits on the city’s seafaring history and the North Sea oil industry, offered a rich educational experience. We wandered through the interactive displays, learning about Aberdeen’s maritime heritage and its significant role in global maritime commerce.

A quick stop at Starbucks provided us with a much-needed caffeine boost and a moment to reflect on the day’s experiences. There’s something wonderfully familiar about enjoying a coffee, no matter where you are in the world.

Active Afternoon and Culinary Delights

Dakota and Brad managed to squeeze in a tennis match – their second of the trip. The friendly competition and shared laughter on the court added a fun, energetic twist to our day. It’s always great to stay active and enjoy some family bonding through sports.

As evening approached, we enjoyed a lovely dinner outside, basking in the pleasant Aberdeen weather. The meal was a delightful combination of local flavors and the fresh air made everything taste even better.

Sunset and Sweet Treats at Footdee Beach

We concluded our day with a visit to Footdee (locally known as “Fittie”) Beach. This picturesque area at the end of the Aberdeen harbor is known for its charming, historic cottages and serene beachfront. Strolling along the sandy shores as the sun set, we enjoyed the simple pleasure of ice cream, which was the perfect way to end a memorable day.

Looking Ahead to Paris

As we packed our bags and prepared for our early departure to Paris, excitement buzzed in the air. The next leg of our journey will take us to the vibrant city of Paris, where we will immerse ourselves in the electrifying atmosphere of the Olympics. Reflecting on our wonderful day in Aberdeen, we felt grateful for the blend of inspiration, relaxation, and adventure that the city offered us.

Aberdeen gifted us a day full of rich experiences, from the spiritual nourishment at Trinity Church to the historical insights at the Maritime Museum, the joy of a tennis match, and the serene beauty of Footdee Beach. It’s a day we will cherish as we continue our journey to Paris.

Last year I caught a YouTube about Trinity and their renovation project; I was impressed by their heartfelt vision for reaching the city and the compelling metaphor for the restorative work of the gospel.

    – From the City of Churches to the City of Light; wishing you safe travels!
