Day 31- June 29- Safarithon Marathon
The big day was finally here and the race for starts at 7:15AM. Dakota ran the 5K, Max ran the 1/2 Marathon, and I ran the Marathon.
It was so fun to get to run with Max on the Lewa Conservancy in Kenya. It was really beautiful and so fun to get to do it with Max. There were armed guards, helicopters, and planes all keeping the animals away from the human. When the race started it was about 60 degrees and the sun was just rising. Within a few hours it got very sunny and very hot. It was the hardest marathon I have ever run. The elevation was 5,000 feet and went up to 6,000 and down to 4,000. The marathon was two loops of the half-marathon, so I got to go up and down twice.
Wendy did amazing encouraging me and all of us throughout the race as she was driven everywhere by our driver— Nigiri. We then went back to the lodge to relax…
For more info about the race here is a cool article in the WSJ about it… https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-toughest-half-marathon-youll-want-to-plan-a-trip-around-1530641366
