A Journey Through Time: Our First Day in Scotland

Our adventure began the moment we landed in Scotland. With excitement coursing through our veins, we quickly picked up our rental car and hit the road. Our first destination? The historic Craigmillar Castle, a place steeped in centuries of history and intrigue.

Craigmillar Castle: A Step Back in Time

Arriving at Craigmillar Castle, we were immediately struck by its imposing presence and well-preserved structure. This medieval fortress, just a short drive from Edinburgh, offers a fascinating glimpse into Scotland’s storied past. We wandered through the ancient halls and climbed the stone staircases, imagining the lives of those who once roamed these corridors. The panoramic views from the tower were breathtaking, giving us a stunning overview of the surrounding countryside.

A Pastoral Walk and A Historic Meal

After our castle tour, we decided to explore the nearby pasture. The serene landscape, dotted with grazing sheep, provided a peaceful contrast to the formidable walls of Craigmillar. The walk was invigorating and gave us a real taste of the Scottish countryside.

Our stroll led us to The Sheep Heid Inn, reputed to be Scotland’s oldest surviving public house, with origins dating back to 1360. Stepping inside was like entering a living museum, where centuries of patrons have enjoyed hearty meals and warm hospitality. We savored traditional Scottish fare, including a rich, savory stew and freshly baked bread, all while soaking in the historic ambiance. The inn’s charm and the friendly locals made it a meal to remember.

The Drive to Aberdeen

With satisfied appetites and fond memories of our castle visit, we set off for Aberdeen. The drive was a scenic delight, with rolling hills, quaint villages, and dramatic coastlines unfolding before us. Each turn in the road revealed another picturesque scene, making the journey as enjoyable as the destinations themselves.

Our Stunning Townhouse in Aberdeen

Arriving in Aberdeen, we were greeted by the sight of our townhouse, which can only be described as stunning. Nestled in a charming neighborhood, the townhouse combined modern comforts with traditional Scottish elegance. Large windows allowed natural light to flood the space, and the tasteful decor made it feel like a home away from home. We settled in, grateful for the perfect end to a perfect day.

Reflections on a Wonderful Day

Our first day in Scotland was a blend of historical exploration, natural beauty, and cultural immersion. From the ancient stones of Craigmillar Castle to the cozy atmosphere of The Sheep Heid Inn, and finally, the welcoming embrace of our Aberdeen townhouse, each moment was filled with wonder and delight. This day set the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable Scottish adventure.
